What is Basilea?

Basilea is the Greek word for Kingdom. When Jesus teaches about the Kingdom of God he uses the word Basilea. The mission of Basilea Church of Christ is to love God, love people and bring the Kingdom. This means more than church attendance. It means people and communities that are changing to honor God in all aspects of life.

Here are some of the basic Biblical beliefs that we hold:

Authority of Scripture
The Bible is God’s Word and our guide. We have no  other written creeds or doctrines. The following items are things that we understand to be clearly true in scripture and non-negotiable beliefs.

Sovereignty of God
God is above all and we exist at His mercy. All that we have is from Him and we are here to do His will. Romans 11:33-36 says “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!  How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!  “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” “Who has ever given to God,  that God should repay them?” For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.“
Fortunately for us according 1 John 4:8 this sovereign God who is above all is also “love.” God’s combination of sovereignty and love lead us to live lives in service to and love for Him.

Trinity
There is one God.  God is three in one and described as the Trinity; the Father (YHWH), the  Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. God is mysterious and not to be completely understood by man. However, we believe what we understand the Bible to say about Him. We humbly accept Him as Sovereign King and Lord. We know that if we were able to understand Him completely He would not be God. There is no God other than the one described in the Bible.

Salvation
We can be saved only through Jesus because  as Acts 4:12 says “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”  That salvation is received through immersion baptism. Peter said in Acts 2:38  ““Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.“

Gospel
The mission of a disciple‘s life is to share the gospel. We believe that we are called to sow the seeds of the gospel generously. Romans 10:14-15  says “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” We are also called to emulate the New Testament church in living sacrificial lives for others. Sacrifice motivated by love is the heart of the gospel. Philippians 2:3-8 says “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;  rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself  by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
